Human-in-the-loop AI is a design in which AI systems prepare work, such as answers, mappings, findings, or proposed changes, and people review and approve it before it takes effect. In GRC it applies the principle of separation of duties to AI: whatever produced a value cannot approve it, and every AI action is logged, so AI output can be defended to auditors and regulators.

Making it practical

Questions to ask any vendor
- Where is the human approval step, and can it be bypassed?
- Is the log of AI actions itself evidence-grade?
- Does every AI answer cite its source?
- When the AI is wrong and corrected, does it learn?
When this becomes a buying decision
If the vendor cannot show where a person must approve, and whether the AI log is evidence-grade, do not put that AI in GRC. Those are the questions.
